A love of travel has been an innate characteristic in the cultural genes of Turkish people for thousands of years. As an originally nomadic people for whom migration was a way of life , one of the greatest Ottoman figures who first comes to mind is Evliya Chelebi, who described the places he saw in the 17th century in such vivid detail in the first and greatest travel book of the Turkish literature ‘Seyahatname’.
Based on this work, as a sequel to Travelogue, Beyhan Murphy’s  Travelogue  was made for Istanbul State Opera & Ballet's modern dance group MDTist (Modern Dance Theatre Istanbul) in honor of Evliya Chelebi’s 400th year celebrations. Evliya Chelebi’s travel memoirs and worldwide known contemporary writer Elif Shafak’s passages interwoven with Beyhan Murphy’s choreographic compositions, takes the audience through a multi dimensional journey . Music by Burak Guven has  a fusion of traditional elements with  modern sounds, that bring to life Evliya Chelebi’s 17th century dervishes, alchemists & travelers.
The setting is contemporary and yet historical references are scattered throughout the performance.
In Travelogue , with a  core group of 13 dancers and a storyteller; travel, both past and present, inner and outer are explored, with the use of contemporary movement, literature &  film.
Created by a completely Turkish team, Travelogue 2 runs 75 mins. with a pause of ‘7 and  a half’ minutes during which special Turkish pastry is cooked on stage by the dancers and offered to the audience alongside ‘çay’ (tea).
Travelogue has visited:
SPAIN (Murcia- IBAFF Film Festival closure, Teatro Circo)
HOLLAND (‘Turkey Now’ Festival, Rotterdamse Schouwburg)
SLOVENIA (Maribor ECOC 2012  Slovene National Theatre)
THAILAND (Bangkok International Dance Festival)
ALGIERS (International Modern Dance Festival)
